Winery Notes: "The 2022 Powder House effortlessly balances intense, driving minerality and tension with rich citrus and pome fruit character. The ancient seabed on which these vines are planted is transmitted through the wine into a powdered seashell and slate minerality that is counterbalanced by rich tart au citron and white nectarine oils. Heady orange blossom and lilac aromas unfurl with time, and a phenolic streak and crunchy acidity form a textural counterpoint to the natural sweetness presented by the vintage. Enjoyable today, the powerful structure of this wine will carry for 10 to 15 years in the cellar with ease. The wine is slightly hazy showing our commitment to minimal intervention winemaking."

Deep ruby-purple in color, the 2022 UV-SL Vineyard Pinot Noir gallops out with powerful scents pf wild blueberries, fresh blackberries, and pomegranate, leading to suggestions of violets, tar, and tilled soil with a touch of garrigue. The full-bodied palate is bright, energetic, and crunchy, featuring a fantastic backbone of freshness to lift the densely laden black and red berry layers, supported by firm, grainy tannins, finishing with epic length and fabulously fragrant. This vineyard is named after one of Sonoma’s most reputable vineyard managers, Ulises Valdez Sr. (UV), who passed away recently. The site is on Stoetz Lane (SL), only six miles from the Pacific Ocean, up on the hills around Graton and Occidental. Aubert and Valdez Sr. collaborated on the planting of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir here. These Pinot vines were planted in 2006. The soils here have volcanic upheavals and the ocean is so close that this place can handle those heatwaves. 1,100 cases were made.

A complex version, offering a rich and aromatic mix of salted caramel, nutmeg and cardamom, along with pear pastry and white peach notes, plus touches of candied fennel seed, lemongrass and candied ginger. The flavors are plump and fleshy, while mouthwatering acidity keeps everything light on its feet. Drink now through 2032. 2,482 cases made.
