”The Orcia Valley hangs high between two mountains like a bowl of blue clay. On the other side of the mountains the lands fall down to the sea or to deep valleys in the interior. Air in the bowl whirls with harder temperatures than those in any part of Central Italy, rains fall outside the rim of the bowl and bad weather circles around it. It’s best to make wine in climatic strangeness. The vines perform awkwardly and the wines are surprising. He who arrives in pristine and deserted Val d’Orcia will find powerful images that rise from the forces of the place. A winemaker courts these images for years without completely understanding them. In the meantime, he is transmitting a completely original style to his wines”.

The Tenuta di Trinoro 2018 Palazzi is a pure expression of Merlot that boasts seamless power, intensity and concentration. With a precious 1,660 bottles produced, you are treated to a full-throttle expression from Tuscany that exudes generous black fruit, spice and sweet tobacco. Black cherry and plum give the wine soft contours and sweetness. Palazzi sees 15 days of fermentation on the skins and is racked into new barrels for eight months of aging. It is then put into cement for a final 10 months of rest. To the palate, the wine is structured and concentrated, suggesting a pairing with a succulent cut of red meat marinated in rosemary and olive oil. What a beautiful treat.

The 2016 Palazzi, the estate’s 100% Merlot, is racy, succulent to the core. It is also the wine where the elevated ripeness of the house style is most in evidence. Dark fruit, chocolate, spice, leather and licorice all build as this flamboyant wine gradually opens up in the glass. The Palazzi is a heady, exotic wine with generous curves and tons of sheer allure..February/2019

Ripe, with plum, boysenberry and pomegranate fruit flavors augmented by almond, iron and tobacco notes. This is dense and a bit chunky on the finish. Merlot. Best from 2023 through 2029. 139 cases made, 30 cases imported.
