A new wine is the 2014 G2 Vineyard, which comes from a site just to the southeast of James Berry. Previously called Gravity Hills vineyard, it was planted in the late 1990s by a Napa estate and is a south-facing slope planted with Mourvedre at the top and Grenache at the bottom. It was recently purchased by the owner of the Heartstone vineyard and this is Justin's first time working with the fruit. The 2014 will be a rough blend of 55% Mourvedre and 45% Grenache (harvested separately) that saw 40% whole clusters and a year in puncheons before moving to foudre. It offers a full-bodied, rich and concentrated style, with lots of tannin as well as caramelized black cherry fruit, lots of dried herbs and flowers and hints of earth. This will be good.

Distinctive, combining polish with appealing earthiness. Aromas of raspberry, mineral and smoky meat lead to structured and focused flavors of dried cherry, licorice and ground ginger. Finishes with refined tannins. Mourvèdre and Grenache. Drink now through 2028. 625 cases made.
